Dramatic views toward the existing elm from every aspect.
A 60-year-old elm forms the centrepiece of the backyard to this dramatically renovated home. The intent was to draw users through the house with an aspect towards the tree from various vantage points. Due to the tree’s impressive height, the design response saw the introduction of a large roof light inviting nature into the centre of the home. The front of the house consists of grandly proportioned rooms which informed the dramatic voluminous spaces continued in the extension whilst the deck provides a tranquil place of contemplation under the tree. We worked closely with the owners to achieve an outcome that would reflect how they live in their home. Cooking and entertaining are extremely important, and so the kitchen is now the heart of the home where it was once cut off from the rest of the house.

Aspect. Voluminous. Shade.
